The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has officially unveiled a newly designed AED 100 banknote as part of its Third Issuance of the National Currency project, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to progress, sustainability, and cultural preservation. This latest release reflects the UAE’s evolving journey and its role as a global economic hub.
Maintaining the classic red color of the existing denomination, the new banknote features design elements that celebrate both the UAE’s heritage and its modern achievements.
At the heart of the new design lies a tribute to Umm Al Quwain, one of the UAE’s most historically rich and culturally vibrant emirates. The front of the note prominently features the Umm Al Quwain National Fort — a timeless architectural landmark that speaks to the emirate’s deep heritage, resilience, and identity.
Built in the 18th century, the fort once served as the seat of governance and a stronghold of security for the ruling family. Today, it stands as a restored heritage site and museum that welcomes visitors eager to learn about the UAE’s roots, tribal history, and traditional way of life. Its inclusion on the banknote is a proud nod to UAQ’s role in shaping the federation’s historical fabric — often overlooked but immensely significant.
In a rapidly modernizing world, the presence of this iconic fort on a widely circulated denomination ensures that future generations remain connected to their origins, while the international audience is introduced to the lesser-known yet culturally rich emirate of Umm Al Quwain.

The reverse side showcases the Port of Fujairah, one of the UAE’s most vital deep-water ports, instrumental in international shipping and oil storage.
Alongside the port is an illustration of the Etihad Rail network — a transformative infrastructure project that links the emirates and will extend across the GCC, boosting logistics, trade, and connectivity throughout the region.
Crafted from advanced polymer material, the note is designed to last significantly longer than traditional paper notes, supporting the UAE’s goal of sustainable currency practices. It includes a range of modern security features to deter counterfeiting and ensure trust in its authenticity.
To promote inclusivity, the CBUAE has also embedded tactile markings in Braille, allowing blind and visually impaired individuals to identify the banknote’s value with ease — a move that reflects the country’s commitment to accessibility for all.
The new AED 100 banknote circulated on Monday, March 24, 2025, and coexists with existing paper and polymer versions of the same denomination. Banks, exchange houses, and financial institutions have been instructed to upgrade their ATM and cash deposit systems to ensure smooth acceptance of the new note.
This launch is more than just a currency update — it’s a reflection of the UAE’s journey, connecting its deep-rooted heritage with the limitless possibilities of the future.
