The UAE marked a major milestone in its transport development with the launch of Etihad Rail’s first passenger train service between Fujairah and Abu Dhabi on June 30, 2026.
The inaugural train departed from Fujairah and completed the journey to Abu Dhabi in approximately 105 minutes, arriving seven minutes ahead of schedule. Passengers were welcomed with Emirati hospitality, including traditional performances, Arabic coffee and refreshments.
The launch represents the beginning of Etihad Rail’s introductory passenger operations and an important step towards developing a fully integrated national railway network. More than 10,000 tickets were reportedly sold for the initial services, reflecting strong public interest in the new transport option.
The passenger railway is expected to provide a comfortable and efficient alternative for travel between the emirates, while helping to reduce road congestion and improve connectivity across the country.
By connecting major cities and communities, Etihad Rail will support easier movement for residents, employees, tourists and businesses. It is also expected to strengthen access to commercial centres, ports, airports and key economic areas.
The launch reflects the UAE’s continued investment in modern and sustainable infrastructure. It also supports the country’s wider goals of improving mobility, enhancing quality of life and creating stronger economic connections between the emirates.
For businesses and investors, improved rail connectivity can support faster movement, wider access to markets and greater opportunities for growth across the UAE.
